Color

Keyframing can add subtle effects and changes to your color grading; keyframing can also add eye-catching, in your face color effects to your video.  The choice is really up to you. It is an artistic choice - but you have to know how to create the look.

I think that the difference in being an artist and being a technician is simple:  a technician has the knowledge and skills to create an effect, but an artist chooses an effect that truly supports the story that is being told and tells it in a unique way. Not all technicians are artists, and not all artists are technicians.  We are training you to be technicians who know how to create the effects, and we want to help you develop as artists.  But you cannot fully teach that!

Do you think of yourself as an artist or a technician?  Neither choice is wrong.  The world needs both!  Answer in the comments what you think you are and then explain why.  Make it a GOOD explanation - more than a sentence!

  1. WOW. This deleted everything I had previously written and it was actually an amazing answer. D: No bueno!

Anyways, I feel more like an artist than a technician because I go more-so for the look that I think looks amazing while it actually might not be the correct way to do it. I do know the basic tools enough to combine them to make my own personal style.

  4. Well when im not killing amateurs online or reading the dictionary, im in color using my technician skill to find the right lighting that is needed for the shots. I hope to one day be able to ARTISTICALLY use color but for now im just learning and taking my sweet time.

  5. I think that I'm an artist more than a technician. I think I'm an artist more because I like to look at things in a different way and evaluate my work more than just getting the job done. I like to make everything look good and look perfect and if it's not than I'm not done. I like to make my work flow with the mood and the story of the movie rather than just recording it and fixing it.

  6. I really don't know which one I am but when creating an effect I try to feel what is going on in the shot then create a mood that tells you what is going on.

  7. i feel as somewhat both. i have the ideas for artists but i feel the ideas through being being a technician. i just want to show the rawness of art as it truly is meant to be.

  8. I would put myself as a technical artist. I possess the (amateur)knowledge on how to form a certain effect, yet I have a visual aspect of what the desired effect COULD be, rather than what it is. Like TanHans said, it would definitely take me awhile to get the visual to look exactly the way my brain pictures it.

  11. I feel like leaning more on the arTEEST side of things. I mean but i don't like to try to make UGLY footage PRETTY. I would like all everything about it beautiful. so i guess im both. Color is a great way to express your artistic ability. SWAG

  12. I think that I'm both. I have a really good handle on how to apply the effects and how to use them, but I also change the effects to suit how the shot looks and also to suit my artistic taste. I think there have only been a couple of times that I wasn't able to accomplish what I wanted for a shot (mostly because of the footage quality.) Other than that, I am able to achieve the artistic style I want for a clip because I know how to set it up technically.

  13. Im neither. I know a little bit but i dont have full knowledge on how to execute exactly what i want, i have to play with it for a sec. That is why i am not a technician. Iv been givin reasonable restrictions on assignments for learning purposes of course. This is why i am not an artist either. How can i be. Still inspiring to be both tho
