Be The Best

It was not meant that every man should rise to leadership.
Not everyman can build a bridge or into stardom slip.
He might not be an executive
Or even own a store.
But he can be his finest self
And strive for something more.
If we can't be a blazing sun
Perhaps we can be a star.
At least each person can try to be the best
Whatever we are!

Opportunity

It is amazing to think that when opportunity stares you in the face you choose to turn away. If your dream is to make a movie, are you the one that is going to be surfing the web for answers or are you going to take a chance at the door that has opened for you.

Often times I wonder what life would have been like going through different doors. If a door is open, does that mean you need to go through it? Can you peek in and see what is going on behind the door. It's in our nature to want to see what's behind the closed door. When I was growing up it was Monty Hall who wanted to make a deal to allow you to see what was behind the door. Once you did make the deal you were stuck with it.

Our doors at DVP are open. We want to provide opportunities for you and help you in creating your dream.

Opportunities don't come by that often, and with a chance to try your dream why would you waste it. Why? That is the question I pose to you?

Guest speaker follow-up

I think that having Lance McDaniel here in class was a wonderful opportunity for our students. First and foremost I think they gained exposure to the film community that exists in Oklahoma which gave them hope that they can be a part of that community! And they had access to someone who could straightforwardly answer their questions about careers in film and video.

That being said, they still have more questions. So here you go, Lance!

1. What inspired you to start in the film industry?

2. Have you ever been discouraged in the industry, and how did you keep yourself motivated?

3. Is there a specific genre of film that you prefer to create? What is it, and why?

4. What is the best advice you would give to beginning filmmakers from your experiences?

5. What steps would you recommend taking to be more involved in the film community in Oklahoma, even for someone who doesn't have much experience?

6. Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years? How do you see the deadCENTER Film Festival evolving in the next 5 years?

7. What is the best field in the Oklahoma film industry for a recent high school graduate to go into now, and how long will it take to start in that career?

8. What college or university in the Oklahoma City area would be the best choice to further my education in film and video production?

9. What exactly does a Script Supervisor do? How do you go about becoming one?

In the Beginning...

Hello everyone and welcome to our Reel Training Blog. We are going to be posting all sorts of great information about video production. We want to make this an interactive site and build a community around the educational process of learning how to create quality visual stories.
